Default Hydraulic Valves Adjusters Kia Sportage 2000

What are the proper proceedures to change this hydraulic lashers...do you sump them in oil for overnight, are they all (16) of them the same size outside and inside (in calibration), and before starting the engine is it necesary to handcrank it before starting the engine?
I am asking this because my engine rattles to much when crusing or with heavy loads (A/C) or when it gets hot (not overheating).

I have never had a problem with the lifters in a KIA Sporty. Have you checked your oil pressure? Do you have the correct oil filter installed? Is your oil level correct in the engine oil sump pan?

Are you sure this is a lifter problem or a knock sensor problem? Has your timming belt slipped a tooth?

I had a noisy engine, sounded like the lifters, bt turned out to be a valve seating issue!

In theory the lifters require no adjustment, in fact there is no way to adjust them, you could have a blocked oil passage, a sticky hydraylic lash adjuster, or the same valve issue I had, or it could also be a pin sized hole in the exhaust (will sound very simular), or the wrong oil filter, there are sond without the drain back device that create a 'tick'. Try running some Seafoam or other aditive (lifter lube etc!) first before taking things apart!

Yes, oil filter from KIa, level O.K. and viscosity. I put in 10W40
¿Could the timming belt be the problem? (slipped a tooth)
Have to check that out...
No SeaFoam where I live...(Panama City, Panama).
Noise is coming inside engine...No MIL light on. Knock sensor will have to see that.
Tks anyway.

Timming belt may be an issue if it has slipped a tooth and not been corrected, the valves may be staying open to long, causing the compression of the engine to snap them shut, creating the ticking sound!

But this also can be said for valves at are not seating correctly either due to carbon build up or wear, the issue I had with mine was the intake valves were not seating correctly, and when the engine compressed the valves would close fully creating a 'tick'!

But a gummed up hydralic lash adjuster can also produce the same effect, is there any type of quality additive you can obtain down there, I know GM does a great upper head lube, I just can't remember the name? The additve is the cheap route worth trying first, $5 to $10 a bottle compared to $1500 for ripping the head apart!

Default Avoid spending money.

Well gues I will have to first check the timming belt, including changing the water pump, take off the Cams and see if the lasher are ok before taking off the cylinder head. Hope its what you said...Timming belt may be an issue if it has slipped a tooth.
Tks.

Before you go tearing things apart you should visit 4x4Wire.com's TrailTalk Forums: Viewing forum: Kia Sportage & Sorento Tech and post the same question!

Default Fixed problem on engine rattle noise.

It was the timming belt, to much slack, repositioned the tensioner, belt deflection between 7mm and 8mm with 22 pounds force, make sure the timming marks were in place, reassemble everything back and road test the car, annoying noise gone. Works fine.
