Default engine Takes off when AC switched on

I have a 2000 Sportage. When in park with the engine running, I turn on the AC and the engine revs to 3000+ RPM. Only does this when in park or neutral. Also AC quit working when this problem popped up yesterday. HELP.

Idle air control. (IAC) Usually this device bumps up the RPMs to prevent stalling when the A/C is turned on. Something in that circuit is a miss.

I am not very mechanically inclined. Is it possible for me to check the IAC valve and clean/replace it? Where is it located? thanks for your help.

Strangely I have the same problem with my 98 sportage, I think that sums it up, I can now check it out. But my question is what would cauz the A.C. to stop working?
