Default Question

I have 2001 Kia Sportage. I'm still having intermintent non starts. I'm in the mist of chaning the fuel pump, and gas tank. But am having an uneasy feeling that this may not be my problem. It sometimes starts first turn of the key, but may take at times several tries. It is starting now to quit while driveing.
Now my questing is, there is a small circular electrical connection at the base of the wind shield washer that is unpluged...the wire that looks like it would plug in there runs towards the grill...can anyone tell me what this connector is for, and should it be unpluged. thanks.

Sportys have a grounding problem. Sportys have a connector problem. Usually if you take the connectors apart and clean them the problem goes away.

check the air intake tube from the maf to the throttle body for any cracks, if it is cracked it will cause it to suck air and not register it through the maf causing all kinds of driveability problems, also on the top of the transmission there is a ground, check that ground to see if it is tight, also the maf shares the same ground as the ecm, the ground is G100 and is located on the left side below the Instrument panel the picture is not the best but might help, the other way of doing this is to tap into the black/yellow wire at the maf and run it to ground, doing this will enhance the ground to the sensor as well as other sensors and the ecm, just strip the wire and solder, do not cut the wire,

Would still like to know, if anybody has the answer, what that electrical connection mounted on the base of the windshield washer mount is for.

Unhappy Sportage 2001 Starting Probs

hi - I have read with interest the problems you have experienced re. starting/stalling your 2001 Sporty.. I have only had mine 5 weeks of which 3 has been spent back with the dealer and garage !!
Sometimes it starts first time, sometimes it doesn't start at all - completely random ! and now it has stalled on me three times and stranded me in the most awkward places, I have completely lost patience with it but each time the garage has said they can find nothing wrong... !!
the engine cranks but won't fire ! there is plenty of battery life ... now the stalling has left us thinking that there is a fuel problem ... did changing around the relays really solve it ??
the sporty is a fab car but I am starting to think I've bought a real dud...

Hi guys, that is what I did. I changes the fuel pump relay with a new one, but the problem continued. Then I read a post of changing main relay with the fuel pump relay, so I took the old fuel pump relay and switched it with the main relay...that was two weeks ago, and has been working fine ever since...guess my problem was a bad main relay..
