Question 99 Sportage fuel tank is leaking...

99 Sportage fuel tank is leaking, anyone have links to web sites offering replacement or aftermarket tanks? I have tried Google, but the sites do not offer OEM style tanks for direct purchase. If I could spare the vehicle, I could pull my tank and have it repaired, but I can't spare the vehicle.

Well, turns out I need to re-plumb the whole fuel system.

Installed a new fuel tank (from the dealer, >$240) didn't fix the problem.

While I was under the rig doing the new tank, I saw severly rusty fuel lines, and after the new tank was fully installed, the fuel leak problem remains. Probably one of those lines has split.

Anyone know of an online resource that has diagrams or photos of the
99 sportage fuel system? I could take the photos myself, but the camera will likely get greasy.

I have a 2002 Kia Sportage and the gas tank was leaking. I had the tank replaced and haven't had any problems so far. However I did find this article and your car falls under the same category. Just follow the link below.

Ok, my bad.

I have already replaced the fuel tank and the fuel pump assembly and the fuel tank pressure sensor ALL at my cost (because I didn't know about the recall).

Turns out that the fuel line leading to the engine (not the overflow line returning from the pressure regulator) was severely corroded, and was squirting the fuel all over the top of the fuel tank, making for a casual diagnosis of a leaking fuel tank. After all, who wants to stand or lay under a vehicle that is dribbling fuel??

I partially replaced the corroded section of the fuel line with high pressure fuel hose, but the leak has reappeared further towards the front of the vehicle. I now have to go further towards the engine with the fuel hose. Good thing that rubber doesn't corrode like the OEM steel fuel lines.

Contact KIA. Tell them of the problem with the gas tank. They should offer you something since it is a recall now. If not Contact the States Attorny Generals office in the state where you live. Could be they could get some action out of KIA for you.
