What year is my Sportage?

Hi,
My Sportage is a 2WD 2.0L DOHC 4-door.
My title says 2002.
10th digit in VIN is '2'.
Production date on driver door is 5/15/01.

I am confused by the difference between the production date and the VIN number.

What year is my Sportage?

It's a 2002 model year that was built in 2001, although May is a little early to start the new production year, but it was a time when Kia was expanding, and wanted to get the new models out there.

My 2001 has a production date of 12/12/00

and my 72 has a production date of 10/05/71

arent our gen sporrtyis actuallly made in korea and had to be shipped over the pond. might explain it also.

I didn't think about that thaey had to be shipped from Korea.
It makes since now why they had to start the year so early.
