Default Kia grand sportage '99 diagnostic link

hello all,

Do you know if this KIA is OBDII compliant?

And if so, does anyone have the pinout of the non-standard diagnostics connector in the engine bay, or a good cheap source of 'plug convertion' cable?

Yes! anything after 96 is OBDII (and some 95's)

Here is a list of all CEL codes http://www.kia-forums.com/do-yoursel...ble-codes.html

Exclamation Excellent, now I just need the correct plug

Now all I need is the pinout of the thing, because this plug is not a 'standard' OBDII 16 pin one.

i.e. I need to be able to plug my USB ODBII (16 pin standard) scanner to the original KIA diagnostics plug.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Where would this plug's DATA (Pin 9)

be on this plug ?

Or, is there a seperate OBDII plug somewhere else? Where could it be then, because I'm not finding it, even if the OBDII specs say it has to be within 2 feet of the driver, and usually inside the passenger compartment, not in the engine bay.

NO you are looking at the wrong plug in!

You are looking at the plug-in in the engine bay! There is a second one under the strearing wheel between your legs, at least thats where it is on a LHD not sure about RHD

Default Damn, Still not finding that plug

Can someone narrow that position down for me?
The car is RHD with the driver position on the left hand side.
standard European configuration I think.

on mine, it's under the dash below the steering column and it is looking directly at your crotch when you are seated.

Default Still missing..

I believe that this empty bracket that I circled in red would have held the OBDII connector.
Am I correct?
if that is true, can I get this wire harness somewhere and put it in myself?

Default New information

A friend of mine that has serviced some Kia's a while back told me that the OBDII link did not arrive in the Kia Sportages until late 2001.
At least not in this country (Iceland)
So there is the reason that I failed to find the damn thing.

Is there any way for me to read the diagnostic link one with some cheap reader from ebay?

I'm guessing that the diagnostic link is the old ALDL 8192 baud one?
anone with better information?

Iceland! wow!

You don't need a scanner then, you can use a jumper wire to bridge a connection on the link port and count the number of flash's on the CEL to get the code, to clear it you just disconnect the batt for 10 to 20 mon.
