Manual Hubs
I own a 2001 Sporty. And the Vac Hubs we believe are gone. As I've read past post, seems like I'd be better off to install Manual locking hubs instead. I've talked with my mechanic, and he is having trouble locating them for my 2001 sportage. Would any of you know the part number for manual locking hubs. And where to purchase them.
Thanks for your help.
I'd be looking for a new mechanic if mine couldn't find a simple part like a set of hubs from a mojor supplier, I would have taken him one phone call to find them. Cost shouldn't be more than $120 USD for a set.
Thanks for all your help, you have saved me a lot of time. I guess all the banging and grinder was coming from my hubs after all. They plugged off the Vac hose for now, until the parts come in. Warn said 4 to 6 weeks for the part. But at least I can drive my sporty until then. Lots to know about these little SUVs. The info site 4x4 very helpful, Thank YOU. I sure like driving my sporty, instead of my husbands truck. Thanks a Million for all Your Help!!
$ to 6 weeks sounds like a long time! I live in the middle of nowhere and can get then in under a week!
If there is 'grinding' coming from the front hubs, you might want to change the front bearings when you do the hubs, as crap gets in the busted vacuum lines and contaminates the bearings! Better safe then sorry!
Hi. I'll second what mgbgt has said: Four to six weeks is very long. I live in Bangkok - which is not exactly local to the folks as Warn. I ordered the hubs directly from Warn's website and had them here in ten days. If you go to the website, you can find dealers and distrubutors in your area.
If your vacume line were broken and not plugged for any newxtended period of time, it is quite likely your wheel bearings will need to be replaced. It would be worth your time to have them checked and repacked.
I also had the hub problem with my 2000 sporty. I purchased a set of new Warn hubs from Ebay and they were on my doorstep in 3 days. There are ads for Warn hubs for a Sportage on Ebay right now, and the price is right also. (around $115-125)
Any Warn dealer will get them in. JustJeeps here in Toronto can have them the next day. I have spoken on the phone a few times with them regarding 4x4 issues and they are more than willing to help even though it is not a Jeep. I will be putting on the Warns in the spring, I just replaced the vac lines the other night.
I have seen Warn hubs offered for 2001 Sportages, but not for 2002. I called Warn and was told that the 2002 hubs are like the 2005 and that Warn does not offer them. Has anyone successfully used a 2001 hub on a 2002 Sportage? I am looking for automatic ones. Thanks, Paul
