Default 97 Sportage remote control

I have lost a key and remote, I don't think there is anything embedded in the key. Where can i access a new 2 button remote unit for a 1997 Sportage? What is the cost app? How hard are they to program?

if it is a factory alarm ETC contact the dealer for a remote. The key is available at a lock smiths. I would check to see if you have a real KIA remote controled item in your car. My kia came with a viper remote

Unhappy

Remote is marked as Kia and was standard on 97 Sportage in Australia.
dealer has Quoted $260 for a new remote & app $45 to program it.
There are no markings on the rear of the remote. I am still hoping to locate a generic/clone or used remote. Have tried Ebay I am now trying wreckers.

do a google search for goh-3bfm2497 and see if that matches it. if it does you are in luck. from what i seen on the net, the above remote wether it is says ford or kia (they are the same) will work in 95-02 sportages.

Hi. You will find many sites that sell remotes with programming instructions. I believe that the FCC ID: GOH-3BFM2497 which mre_powers has given you is correct. KIA gave me the programmings instructions I include below. These should apply:

1. Open driver's door. Turn ignition to "ON" position.

2. Locate the programming button on wiring harness pigtail. It is behind the left side of the center console (to the right of the gas pedal). It is next to the RKE module. (feel around under the plastic wall)

3. Press and hold the programming button for 15 seconds. The horn will sound 3 times when it enters programming mode.

4. Press the lock button on the transmitter. The horn should sound once to confirm the transmitter. Repeat for any additional transmitters. You apparently can have up to 4 transmitters.

5. Turn ignition to "OFF" and test transmitters.
