Default changing timing belt....

HI,

I just bought Kia sportage 2000, 83 450 miles on it.Is my first car and it was my first time when i looked at the engine... before i was not interested in it.

I am not sure if other owner changed timing belt...My friend can replace it for me. I am just curious what is difficult in changing it?any specific recomendations? do i need to change tensionaries?
how to check the tense of belt after changing? maybe too week or too strong...
do i need to change water pump?

Thank you
Tanya

since you have to remove the timing belt to change the water pump some people dont but others do. because it is right there and most of the work has been done. i would get the thermostat. its your call
