Default poor acceleration when cold.??

Hi guys, Im new so go easy on me.

Car is a UK 1998 sportage GLX manual 2.0 DOHC.
I have a problem about 2000 rpm when cold. Engine just starts to die unless i floor it and it pulls away cleanly. Once car is warm it accelerates fine??
Any ideas ?? I have lots of experience with BMW motronic fuel and ignition systems so you wont be talking chinese to me if you reply with codes etc..
thanks in adavance.

PS . The car starts normally and idles normally when cold also. It revs up ok when not moving too. Just get flat spot / porr accel when cold.

well i think all cars act the same way when its cold i used to have that problem then i started to let it warm up before i drove it and it works fine i would sugest letting it warm up more than 5 min before driving it that might work and if not incress the time

mass air control filiment connetor is most likly corroded, a common problem in these cars if you clean the corrosion it will come back quickly. so constantly clean it or if you are good at soldering solder the connectors together.

this is my wifes car, so... because of that. i havent spent much time looking for more umph for this car. the best i can suggest is good intake cleaningand proper tuneup. a bunch of stuff might help like port and polish the intake, cold intake, (from out of the engine compartment), now i know the engine is a licenced engine from mazda so any internal parts might be found in the communities of cars that have that engine in mazda.

i thought that was the ohc version of the sportages engine. that they used 1995-1997

any way that means it MIGHT be possible to install performance pullys for a probe. key word is Might. and what this will do is make the crank pully lighter and returning Horse power to the engine. k@n do add power but it is miniscule. a port and polish and opening up the maf or going to bigger maf combined with a K@N would do a lot of good. as performance goes anything is possible with the right $$$$$ the trick is to find the stuff that was massproduced.

and if anybody knows about stuff to do to the sporty its the trail heads at 4x4Wire - 4x4, 4WD SUV & 4 Wheel Drive Trucks

Most of the "opening up" options only add power to the top end. The reduction in intake flow velocity at the lower end of the rev range (ram effect) caused by the larger cross sectional area of the inlet airstream will usually sap the peak torque and make it occur higher in the rev range, giving a very narrow "powerband". Basically nothing you really want to do for a vehicle that is lacking low speed acceleration as it stands.
