Default 2002 Sportage Stereo Installation

I want to install an aftermarket CD Receiver in my daughter's 2002 Sportage. Can anyone tell me how to remove the factory stereo. Also what do I need to install the aftermarket unit besides a wiring harness adapter?

You are going to need a wiring harness and faceplate adapter, getting the old radio out and the new in may be tricky, take a look at the dash and console, you may notice it's all one piece. I had mine done at a custom audio shop and it took them 4 hours to get the dash out and the new stereo in.

I have a 2000 model. my aftermarket radio went as follows
bought wire adapter off of ebay. went to best buy, bought install kit.(have to ask not on shelf). bought radio from walmart. and wire connectors

1 connected radio wires to wire adapter with wire connectors and added install kit
2 brought radio to my kia
3 popped open the cup holder
4 firmly pulled out on the fake woodgrain plastic thing
5 removed the radio with phillips screw driver.
6 removed radio wire connections
7 installed new radio wire connections tested radio
8 attached radio/install kit bundle to dash
9 reinstalled fake wood grain.
10 done

it took an hour because i was not in a hurry

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like this could be a bigger project than I thought.
