I take it you have a early model sporty without OBD-II a 95 or early 96 right? Code 18 is a fault in fuel injector #1

A list of the codes is here: http://www.kia-forums.com/do-yoursel...ble-codes.html

It is an AIRBAG (stated) code, not an engine code, I am assuming from the flashing airbag light. One loooong flash, pause, one short, pause, and 8 short. = code 18. This code is not listed as a fault code on the KiaTechInfo site.

In light of this, for clarity, could you describe the flashing for us or how you came to believe it is a code 18.

If the code was picked up from the OBDII port via a reader or by jumpering and reading the OBDI port, then it is likely to be an engine code. No commercial readers will pick up airbag codes from OBD ports, but you may also have an airbag issue too if that airbag light is on.

The only way to clear the airbag light is at a dealer using the "Hyscan" tool which picks the information off a different pin in the OBD connector. (been there, done that)

i counted it the same way you did, and i got the number 18 all 10 times i counted it, so it has to exist. only a dealer can cut it off? this dam kia is way more of hassle than it is worth.

Slightly off topic since different model (apologies), however I have a 2003 Kia Sorrento. I suspect the answer is the same - can anyone confirm that I need a dealer to clear the airbag light for my 2003 Sorrento?
