it wouild help to know what its doing if there any check engine codes and what they are but you dont need a new engine.

probably needs a through intake cleaning and tune up. also by that many miles your camshaft cover gasket is probably leaking oil into the spark plug wells. change the timing belt also. Just before you change the spark plugs run some product up the brake booster lines called seafoam.

A bit of punctuation would make things a bit clearer (this is a public forum, not a TXT message)...

New engine will be exactly the same as the old one and there is absolutely nothing to gain from doing it. Pointless unless there is something fundimentally wrong with it (spend your money elsewhere on the vehicle).

IFS/halfshafts will cause the most grief when trying to lower the vehicle.

Well it's going to be a lot of work to get any V8 in (substantial firewall/tunnel mods), very tight to get a V6 SOHC/DOHC in (less mods to tunnel/FW) unless it is a small V6, ideally pushrod.

Main problem area is only having 24" from the firewall to the radiator. Engine would possible be out too far and be too heavy, requiring a complete rework of the front suspension. Body height at the hood may limit how big you can go, and the width between the suspension towers also.

You would have to lose the front diff assy or SUBSTANTIALLY beef it up to maintain 4WD (not strong enough, I have broken two diffs), and need a new transmission (+ transfer case) and beefed up rear axle to handle any extra power.

Only engine conversion I have heard of is a Nissan SR20T (or its DET stablemate) being slipped into the engine bay in front of the stock transmission (manual), but have no real knowledge of what happened to it after that (Urban myth in Sydney Australia???)

I am about to put a V6 (Aussie) Commodore 3.8 litre (Nee Chevy 232), 4L60E auto with a converter to a Toyota Hilux (Tacoma) transfer case, going to beefed up diffs ("air actuated lockers" from Greece) so I have already done much of the research you seem to be heading towards. Note that I also have a 2" bodylift (body up off chassis) in order to squeeze the engine under the hood. The project has taken a bit of a pause at the moment.

Sporty's were not designed to be friendly when it comes to engine trans changes. I like mine just the way it is and you can find a much better little SUV to modify. Sporty's do a great job on what they are designed to do. They do have there litle problems but so do all motor vehicles.

well here is a thought. the engine in the kia is a licenced engine. so it is a copy of other engines in other manufacturers cars. i would then find out what other cars this engine is in. and see what other engines go into those cars. i know the engine is licenced from mazda and i also know the engine is in the ford probe. you may get lucky and the 3.0 vulcan will fit. or even luckier and a sho engine. i hope this helps and is a start.
