Default 2000 Kia Sportage 4 Wheel Drive Does not work

Help please, Last year I spent 1200.00 to have the 4wheel drive replaced on my car. It worked fine for the 2 or 3 times I used it last year. Now this year the first time I went to use it the 4 wheel drive would not work again. Any ideas, Help.

Kia has ha dmany problems with the vacuum 4 wheel drive they used. You need to convert to Warn hubs. They cost about 200.00 not including labor and the problem is solved.

May not be just a 'Kia Hubs suck" Issue, some of the time it is how and when you use the 4 wheel option, it should not be used on dry pavement of for general road use, the front axel does not have a diff, and a few runs on the highway can seriouly mess up your car. the last time you attempted to move in 4 wheel mode did you hear or feal a thud?

Also may be due to the weather, like today it's -30 and my WARN cam locking units didn't want to engage the first couple of times I attempted to shift into 4 wheel mode. But then again at -30 nothing wants to work.

If you just spent $1200 last year I'm assuming it was at the dealer just by the price alone. What did they do, did they replace the Kia vaccum hubs with the Cam locking ones? if they did the replacement kia cam units are rebadged WARN autolockers.

Try over at the 4x4wire's fourm. they have a thread on their kia fourm about this topic.

go here => 4x4Wire.com's TrailTalk Forums: READ FIRST IF YOUR 4WD DOES NOT WORK

Hope this helps.
like hvac1000 said switching to WARN manual hubs is a 45 minute job and cost under $150USD or $200CDN and you can do it yourself, no real need to spend an extra couple of hundred bucks on labour!

Thumbs up

Another possibility is AVM set 460. I did the change just by myself. It was really easy breezy. Work for under 1 hour (when everything going well). AVM is a bit cheaper then WARN - at least in my country.

first of all do like i do, punch the car, i hate kia.. my wife had no 4 wheel either, actually it becomes 1 wheel when you shift it into 4 high. we need some better answers here, snow season is coming.

BTW if you get under the parked sportage, can you spin your front drive shaft by hand easily? i can.

use the GDS and a parts supplier like
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
resource to see if there is any parts differance between the 2 years

then google 60247 warn AVOID offroad warehouse because a couple fraudlent charges appeared after i bought my hubs from them.

got kia for free. mods are selective tree branch decoration right rear, warn hubs, k@n airfilter, aftermarket mp3 cd player. walmart brand

Considering your approch to fixing your car is to punch it, I would go with the advice given to you by others!

The only change done by kia from 95 to 02 is to change from cam locking on the early models to vaccum locking on the later models, the two warn models replace both and both are interchangable.

This topic is coverd about once a week, do a search and save your self some time next time.
