Hi

I have a 2001 manual sportage 4 cyl and 4wd. Everytime I shift, I hear a "cluck" noise. Seemed to me that the drive shaft is having a loose between each gear.

Should there be a loose? or should I worry about the tranfer case, the Differencial or even my transmission ? What should I check? What's "normal" and "not normal"..

Thanks!

- Nicolas

Default My '95 Sportage does the same thing

but only from 1st to 2nd gear. My weekend mechanic friend thinks it may be a U-joint thing, but also wonders about the tranny.... Have you tried any repairs yet?

My '96 automatic transmission has a "cluck" sound, too, when it shifts from 1-2, especially going up a hill. The U-joints are tight, no signs of a bad engine mount, and no ominous sounds from the transfer case. It hasn't gotten worse over the last three years I have owned it.

it is not normal my 2000 sportage has 130000 miles and i have no clunking what so ever. i dont have a clue what it is with out hearing the noise my self. i would suspect trans mount, motor mount, or bad u joint.maybe a failing transmission. if you cannot get a better answer from another board or cannot figure it out your self take it to a "good" mechanic

Default Prelude to "cluck" noise when shifting

I've noticed that if revs are low, I'll hear the noise (more like a deep metallic "clink"). If I concentrate on keeping revs higher, no noise....
