Need to remove dash trim in order to remove the radio. Looks like the whole dash must be removed in order to replace the radio. I got started then lost my nerve as the part around the steering wheel would not come loose . The top cover over the steering wheel came off but the bottom part of dash would not??

Hej, this is known issue. (I had same question...). You just have to remove "plastic part" arround radio and vent control knobs. It is like a finishing frame - this one if I know is only attached on clips to the rest of dash. Then undo 4 screws keeping radio frame with radio at its place, disconnect electrical connection and put new radio. BUT el connector in KIA is not std ISO. Then connection must be remade or put an adaptor.

good luck...

There should be 2 more screws in the bottom steering column piece. You will have to remove the front of the dash. I did, to install an aftermarket radio. Just don't loose the little clips that hold the trim around the heater controls. You will also have to remove the drink holder and get an aftermarket install kit. you will loose the small storage compartment underr the factory radio.

UR RIGHT THERE IS 3 SCREWS...BUT I DIDNT HAVE TO REPLACE THE STORAGE UNDERNEATH...I GUESS THAT DEPENDS ON HOW BIG UR STEREO UNIT IS THAT U PUT IN THERE.

crutchfield makes a mounting kit and wiring adapters to put a a replacement radio in the sportage. If you order the radio from them the kits are free if not $20 each.

There is web page www.4wd.ru/publications/ publications_17.html with some photos. Try it and have some hints how to make it.
