I have a 2002 Sportage 2-dr. I rarely drive the highway, but when I do & I hit 80mph, an awful odor appears and it doesn't go away. I have it in the shop now & they can't seem to find anything. I have had it in before for the same thing & they replaced the exhaust. But it didn't go away. Any ideas???

That is the converter lighting off. Not much you can do. You might try to change brands of fuel.

Do you mean like upgrading to premium? I leave next week for a 6 hour road trip (highway) and don't want to be smelling this as it gives me a headache. Thanks for your help!!!!

Different brands of gas have different amounts of sulfer. You will have to find out which one works the best in your area. Also check the exhaust. mine was just replaced under warrenty because the pipe rusted off of the muffler. They installed a new mufler and pipe. I also had the smell when the pipe was bad so check for leaks. The other poster could also be right. A to rich fuel situation can and will cause the smell because the converter will become overloaded.
