Hi I am new here and I am thinking about buying a 2000 Sportage. Can anyone tell me what is good about this car and what is bad? What are the replacement parts cost like? Are they good on gas? Any little bit of info would be great!!

Depends on the miles

at 70,000 the timing belt needs to be changed along with plugs and possibly valve cover gasket.

If it is 4wd the vaccum assist hubs probably bad because the tubing is most likely bad. those need to be fixed. and other regular scheduled maintence needs to be done.

Ya it has just over 90k's and it is a 4x4. What are somethings you love about this car and what are things you just hate about this car? Thanks for the tip on what should be fixed before buying. Any other major things go wrong on this car?

Mine was free (cant knock a free car) but if i were to be offered to buy it probably not.

1 i kinda hate suvs.
2. the fuel cap door release is in a bad spot
3. as far as engineering i give it a c+

i dont regret owning the car but it is not my first choice for a vehicle most of the problems can be seen in these forums.

fyi the choice of vehicle of mine is a small mini truck such as a nissan or mazda or ford ranger.

i owned a 91 dakota, 85 nissan, 87 nissan and i would perfer an 84-97 4x4 nissan.

I have a 2000 sportage EX havent had hardly any problems with it exception of a few minor ones that i could solve myself with the help of the people from this board. They are a very cheap car for the money dont spend alot but get alot of miles.(mine has about 100,000 on it and all i have done is replace the plugs and wires on it and a set of tires)going to get the timing belt and water pump changed out this week.some of the cons from my experience are lack of power mine doesn't have much power going uphill and the dealer doesn't want to cover much of anything under warranty wants to say that its not covered there favorite saying other that that its a good car i would buy another KIA and will for my next car.

What sucks about the Sporty is the tailgate. You HAVE to take the key out of the ignition to get it up, and you have to swing open the spare tire mount, which usually gets very dirty, and so does your hands.

Also it has kind of awkward interior, especially with the clumsy cupholder blocking everything else on the console when extended.

Other than that, if well kept, the Sportage is certainly a decent car. Just don't expect to love every bit of it.
