Hi all,

I have a right-hand drive KIA Sportage . Last week, the air conditoning began to fail and now water accumulates on the floor in front passenger compartment. I know very little about auto air conditoning. I have looked at the on-line manual and cannot figure out where clog might be. I I added refrigerant and had the system checked for leaks, but it is OK. It is not very cold. Any help that you could give is certainly appreciated.

Thank you

Bob Tucker

It sounds like condensation is not draining properly. Usually it drains onto the driveway and you see a wet spot. Maybe there is a drainage line plugged that runs from the evaporator to the outside.

Usually it is something to do with the small rubber hose that extends down from the A/C on the inside if the vehicle and exits through the floor. Can become dislodgesd from where it is meant to sit by passengers with big feet . Simple fix is to get under and make sure it is still plugged into the A/C unit under the glovebox. (Squeeze all the rubber tubes until you think you have one that is "empty", that'll be the one that needs to be pushed back).

Be aware that the heaters can also go (well known for it) and will also leave a wet patch on the floor. Put a small cup under where the wet patch is and check the color, if it is clear then it is tha A/C, if it is (usually) green then it is you heater. If it is your heater, be preared for $500-700 for the repair as it is a remove dash/replace heater/replace dash (1.5 days work). Biiiiggg job, allow 2-3 days doing it yourself. If you can get a totally auminium welded replacement, because you don't want to have to do it again...

Hi All,

Damkia, thank you. I am sure you are right. The evaporator and blower appear to be under the dash. I received an email from anoather fellow who indicated that he had to clear this tube with a guitar string. And I see the tube you speak of in a diagram, but I have yet to find it. I will have both the heater and air checked.

Kindest Regards,

Bob Tucker
