P0443?

Hi, wife's 2001 Sportage is now giving a P0443 on the MIL. How do I fix this? Axeman, are you out there? (Hey, how did you get your name?) Thanx, KZ

cant ell how to fix it but this is what is wrong

maybe an exhaust leak? something to do with the catalitic conveter/s. a shot in the dark never seen that code.

P0443 Evaporative Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction.

It is to do with venting the fuel tank.

In the vent line of the tank there is a carbon cannister (4" dia x 6" tall black plastic) located under the hood, that stores the fuel vapours that were usually vented to the atmosphere in pre emissions cotrolled vehicles. After th cannister there is a solenoid that vents the vapour contents of the carbon cannister to the inlet manifold when the car is running.

There appears to be something wrong with the solenoid, usually it is simply dirty contacts on the connector. Try tracing the 3/8" inch diameter tube that does not go to the rear of the vehicle and look for a small object with one tube going to the cannister, and the other tube going to the inlet manifold. There will be an electrical conector on it, try removing and replacing the plug several times to clean the contacts.

The CEL should go out but be aware that the code has been stored. If you want to clear the code, pull the "ECU" fuse for about a half an hour.
