I just changed my spark plugs and wires following the instructions found on this forum (thanks!) and now my 2001 sportage has a very rough idle, hesitates. sputters and has no power when taking off from a stop. The check engine light is also on. It flashes when I am taking off, and then stays on steady once I get going. Above 2000 rpms it seems to run fine. I did clean the idle air control with carb/choke cleaner, made sure all the hoses and connections are reconnected and tight. Anyone have any suggestions?

Since it ran fine before I guess that narrows it down to the plugs or the wires.

Obvious answers that need to be said...
The firing order was messed up when reinstalling the wires..
The wires were not seated properly...

Other possibilities...
I have read about certain plugs that although you would think they are higher quality, they cause problems. What kind of plugs and gap did you install.

Also...if you get the code read, it may read something like misfire in cyl#___-or-it may be something else totally coincidental that crapped out on you causing this. My money is on the former.

You can get the code checked at a parts store and they shouldnt charge you for it.

I used bosch platinum +2 plugs that were not supposed to be regapped. I also did one at a time to ensure getting them back in the same order, the coils are fastened down firmly, and the two wires i felt snap into place. When i restarted it after finishing, it idled fine, only when i went to actually drive it that the check engine light came on and it started acting up. I havent had the codes checked yet... I was planning on stopping at Autozone on my way to work today. Thanks for the suggestions!

Ok, i've been to Autozone, and this is what they told me... 4 different codes, cylinders 2 & 3 were misfiring, random / multiple cylinders misfiring, and code 740 which according to Kia is the torque converter clutch system malfuntioning. Could anyone tell me what this means?

IIRC from other Sportage forums, the plus fours seem to be troublesome in our engines
