1999 sportage 2 ltr 5 speed manual had a bit of a flat spot about 2000 revs for a long time with no problem. Engine check light came on last week, had a mess about which made the flat spot worse took it to the local dealer today they said no codes cames up when running a diagnostic, they had a mess about give me the car back with the light still on by then the car wouldn't even tick over. Went home had another mess about took off the idle air control valve cleaned it ran slightly better, took of the throttle position sensor for a look put it back - no different. Got it to run slightly better by lifting the tick over but now it's hunting from 1000 - 1500 revs - don't know what to do now, engine warning light is still on - anybody got any good idea please.

Try cleaning the electrical connectors on the IAC the TPS and the MAF
sensors, the sensors are Bosch but the connectors are Korean, it,s a
common fault on the Sportage,if you want to really take drastic measures
cut the connectors off and SOLDER them direct to the sensors, if scroll you
the pages of this Forum you will find a page covering this written by a
AMERICAN chappie called AXEMAN, he seems to know these Sportages
really well.

Hi Folks - eventually found out what the problem was after taking it to my local garage and then to an injection specialist - it was the MASS AIR FLOW METER. Eventually found one at a very unhelpful Kia dealership in Britsol, fitted it myself, the engine light went off straightaway and the car now works brilliantly - the wife is very very happy!
According to the injection specialist - the air flow meter is the problem 9 times out of 10, it gives off ghost codes on the diagnostic like lambada and cam reader which would read because the gas co is too rich and cam reader because the cam is shaking
The part cost £147, how much is one in the US? - Just out of interest.
Thanks people.
