Ok. my 2000 kia sportage (base) brake warning light started coming on when i depressed brake about 3 weeks ago. when i reelease my foot from depressing the brake the light would go off. After 3 weeks that light started to stay on most of the time. Since i dont know much about cars problem a friend of my told me that i needed to change brake pads so i bought front and rear brake pads from Autozone.
I got a guy who work at Midas to check the brake. So he drove my kia abot 5 minutes. Then he told me brakes seem to be alright. To diagnose the problem he needed to put the kia on a stand which is going to cost me $20.00.
Since there seem to be no problem with brake and brake fluid seems to be ok, then what might be the problem?.
Xtreme.

xtreme, do you still have this problem? What do you mean by brake warning light? Mine has as emergency brake indicator and an abs light. Do you have something else? My abs light stays on all the time. It has for the last 100,000 miles. The funny thing about that is I don't have abs brakes just simple piston calipers, a hydraulic brake fluid well, a pedal connected to a piston and a vacuum. Why the abs light exists I don't know, later models got em but this one just has a light, which is fine with me. If I am wrong, and that's possible, I hope someone more knowledgable like the Axe will enlighten us.

I agree with cdreece. That is my exact problem now. It would be the first thing I would check.
