When I first purchased my '00 Sportage about 3 years ago the light would stay on sometimes, but it would go off when I pulled the emergency brake up and then put it back down. Over time, however, it has decided to stay on all the time. I'm wanting to sell this vehicle and I'm hoping to be able to fix this problem and make a few extra bucks.

The fan motor also squeals. If you have any thoughts about a cheap way to fix that as well I'm certainly willing to listen.

Thanks for your help.

go up to autozone or some other parts shop place and get the check engine light code pulled and post the code back here.

Does it mean you have thrown a code if the emergency brake light stays on?

The parking brake switch is out of adjustment. It's located under the parking brake lever. You'll have to pull up the center console to get to it.

The fan motor noise is probably a leaf caught in the fan. It's located under the passenger side of the dash. 3 screws and it drops down but it is somewhat of a pain to get at.
