I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the rotors warping on their Sportage.

I only have 52,000 miles on my 2001 Sportage and I will be having the fourth set of rotors installed when I take it into the dealer next week.

After like 7000-8000 miles, the rotors warp and I begin to get pulsing sensation in the brake pedal and jerky braking.

So far I haven't had to pay to have the rotors replaced but I have had to raise some hell to have them replaced free of charge. I've also written to Kia Motors USA and they sent me a reply that basically said too bad, so sorry.

I had a similar problem with my 99 Sephia when I bought it used but replaced the rotors myself (which I purchased at the local parts store) and haven't had a single problem with them in over 40,000 miles. I did notice that the hub on the original rotors was less than a 1/4" thick whereas on the replacement rotors they were over 3/8" thick! I wonder if its just cheap replacement parts from the dealer. They told me the last time that they installed the "heavy-duty" rotors but here we go again.

Comments??

I am going to take a stab at this very odd problem. Is it a 4wd and is it an automatic? Someone else may know if there is a history of faulty OEM rotors. I haven't heard of it. I am sure you have been asked if you ride your brakes but that can cause it. Also if the retainer nut is over torqued. There should not be any heat generated at the rotor unless your calipers are stuck and you are driving "through" the brakes or the bearing race is torqued or not properly greased. I don't have an answer for just some possible eliminations. Sorry

I had this problem in other vehicles. It was caused by using hard brake pads(metallic) try using a asbestos or semi-metallic pads(cheaper as well) Better to sacrifice the pads then the rotors.

Sportages are prone to warping rotors. However, if the lug nut torque is incorrect they will warp MUCH faster.
