The Sportage engine is stamped with an engine identification number. It is not stamped with the VIN number. The engine identification number is located on the left side at the rear of the engine block. The only relationship between the VIN number and engine is that the eighth character of the VIN number indicates the type of engine utilized in the vehicle. I include an illustration from the

The Sportage VIN number is stamped on a metal plate that is located on the drivers side of the instrument panel. The VIN is also stamped into the center of the engine compartment bulkhead. It is stamped into the passenger side of the frame (forward section). And, in the US, it is printed on the Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standards label which is attached tothe driver’s door jamb.
