If there was a bad sensor, I would think there's a red light on. It may have gone on and off and in that case a trouble code may have been stored in memory.

To blindly start checking/replacing sensors wouldn't be the best way to go. You should get it scanned just to make sure there is not a code in memory. If there is, it will give you a place to start.

Good luck

thanks for the response...the engine light was coming on before but when I disconnected the battery to give it a tune-up because my mom said it needed one....the light didn't come back on...but the vehicle was still not going past 45-50 mph....and the rpm are at 3000...i have been doing some reading to see what it could be...i am still going to check the engine light to see if by chance a code is stored....the info i found was perhaps the temp sensor....not reading the temp ....when I started working on her car I didn't know the exact history of how it was running I just did the tune-up because my mom said it needed it....but when it was done she said its running the same.....after I had worked on it all day.....so frustrated but I should have asked her why do you think it needs a tune-up instead of taking her word for it sooo ....lesson....other than the temp sensor I dont know what else it would be ...its running smooth the idle is good and no problems in town its only when she hits the freeway....she's holding up traffic b/c it won't go the damn speed limit.....everything else seems to be working fine..

It sounds like a clogged cat convertor. Any muffler shop can quickly verify that.

One possiblity is a clogged cat converter. It would seem to someone that is used to driving that it runs smoothly but has no power and it can be gradual enough to believe it just needs a tune up. Getting up to highway speed would be impossible but driving around town would seem okay.

What is it called when people post the same thing at the same time?
