My 2000 kia is doing the clunk thing and now the differential is making cracking noise and it seems to be binding up what the deal is that. Anyone else having this problem holla back okay.
Well it is official my Kia Has a spinning drive shaft the differential has just left the building any suggestion would help on the best course of action to take.
Well, first off... look for a stronger diff if you can. Diffs are relatively cheap for what they are. Im really not sure where you could find an entire diff because chances are, not only are the ring and pinion shot, but the bearings and spider-gears are more than likely junk too so replacement of the entire dif would prolly be best. A Kia dealership would be your best bet, you might also try some of the 4X4 sites out there on the net for stronger (and often cheaper) rear differentials.

Okay thanks RTB for the advice my Kia looks sad sitting in the driveway not moving its a nice little car and I really don't want to see her go. I am going to do my best to keep the motor running.
Yeah, lol. They do look sportier than alot of the big, fat SUV's of their time. You might look into something aftermarket. Like putting a rear end under it that will fit, but isnt exactly made for the sportage. That way you can put something "bulletproof" underneath of it that itll never break, haha. If you cant get one from the dealership, that might be your next option. But if you dont know alot about cars, you may wanna skip aftermarket modifications like that. See if you cant find one in a salvage yard, or call around to the dealerships. The thing about most, if not all dealership parts, is that they warranty the what they sell... As long as they install them though, thats the catch >.<. Take a look there though, Id hate to see your sportage just rotting away, theyre fun little sport utilities

Yeah your right about the dealerships they want to get a hold of my car so they can make things worst so they can have a steady flow of repeat customers. I'm already done dropping the diff I just need to get a hold of the proper installation to get it right. Thanks for the input.
Okay Guys JUst got the KIa Back from the Dealer cost to replace Diff With a Used diff 1106.00 Okay now I am back to the misfire and stuttering low pop sound when giving it a little gas the wife is hot because she thought the dealer was going to fix it all Well at 1106.00 smacks for the diff job surely I can figure out this problem Folks holla back at me on what you cats think I need to do now.
Where do you think the low pop sound is coming from? It sounds like some sort of backfire but it depends on if its coming through the intake or the exhaust. If its through the intake you might be looking at a blown head gasket or intake gasket or a bent valve. If its through the exhaust it might be a bent valve, blown head gasket, or too rich fuel air mixture. Also, in either case, it might be an issue with ignition or valve timing as well. Check your timing belt and make sure its not loose, if its loose it may have slipped a notch and may be causing the backfire. A great way to tell what it might be is to get a vacuum tester and see how much engine vacuum your pulling. Alot of the time you can tell whats wrong by looking at the action of the needle and comparing it to the guide in the little book that often comes with it. Thats where I would start, you can plug the vacuum tester in on the passenger side of the motor, theres a little nub on the intake plenum that has a cap on it. Take that cap off and put your tester hose on it. Remember to let the engine warm up or you wont get an accurate reading, it should run steadily right around 19 - 21 M/in of vacuum. Good luck!

Well i am pretty sure its a backfire issue Cel flashes when it is trying to catch itself or what ever you call it. Timing belt is a consideration when I changed the spark plugs there was oil in the plug closest to the fire wall so the valve cover is also suspect. As time goes on I'll get each little bug as needed I'll keep ya'll posted
Could be the spark plug, but you have to look at this though, lol, you said that when you disconnected the battery and cleared the codes it ran fine. Well that would X out the problem of the spark plug having trouble as it would run like crap regardless. Id check the vacuum, normally you can tell whether its a bent valve, compression problem, fuel injection problem, you can get an idea of just whats wrong with it using a simple vacuum test
