I JUST BOUGHT A 2002 KIA SPORTAGE ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND I GOT UP TO GO TO WORK THIS MORNING AND IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK!! I HAD TO BORROW A CAR TO GET TO WORK, AND YES I WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

I know that I could not get mine out one day when I had the battery cable off so If you don,t have a dead battery you may have a bad switch somewhere.

Next to the shifter on the right side on the shifter housing is a small plastic cover. Pop off the cover and insert a key(kia kia works well) and push it in as far as you can. While holding it in the shifter should move.
