Hello, we own a Sportage 2002 (on of the last one's on the lot) purchased in 2002.

till jan 2005 everything was all good and sound.
then, suddenly

- lots of belt and screeching noise, seems it comes from the power steering pump/belt, what do I do about it?

- (the plastic) radiator fan starts to get cracks in the space between each fin. Cracks are about halfway through. can I replace this myself?

- the check engine lights comes one on startin and then goes out, every time!! at mile # 3, i can always predecit exactly where it is going to go out. cause it is always at the same location from way to and from work. the second year this happened during summer andthe whole phenomenon disappeared during autumn.??????

- car started wobbling since july , steering wheel feels like going from left to richt, very small moves. they are present upto 40 miles an hour and sometimes at 65 depending on the road structure (downhill always noticeable) is this an allignment fix?

thank you!

Jean-Pierre

Hmmm

The engine light problem sounds familiar. It happened on mine and I pluged in my code reader and it was some problem with the Catalytic Converter. Mechanic told me its no big deal.

The member Jill sent me an email and the following was said about this topic......

I have had nothing but problems with our 2000 kia sportage, jittering
and pulling on the steering wheel, power windows don't work, cracked
engine block, strange noises from under teh hood, leaking gas, and we have
to fight our dealer to get these issues covered by the expensive
extended warranty we purchased. We are very unhappy with our. The engine
light would go on continually and the dealership wouldhave us come in
every time to hook it up to the computer to tell us only that they couldn't
tell what the problem is and to keep coming back until we had it and
said we can't afford to be driving back and forth like this. Dealer
tells us things aren't warranty before diagnosing problems. Very
unsatisfied.
