Hello my friend, this is not easy!! I had to do the same with my sportage 97. To replace the water pump you need to take the timing belt off. This is a pain. My Kia is twin cam, so you need to align both cam when replacing you belt. Remove the fan front plastic cover behind the fan and you will notice the belt and the cam they have two groves they need to be align right if not you will ruin you engine. I hope this helps.
