Hello there, chances are you may be ooking at a EVAP system problem. It would stall heavier in reverse than Drive seeing as how reverse is a slightly higher gear ratio than first gear in an automatic ( and most manuals ). You may also wish to check for vacuum leaks, if it is idling rough or loping at idle ( surging ) then you may have a vacuum leak which would cause the engine to stall out or shutter when placed in gear ( due to the lower RPM drag on the engine without the throttle plates closing any farther, it creates more vacuum ) Other than that you may simply check your spark plugs, when you have problems always start there. If that doesnt fix it you are either looking at a vacuum leak ( which you can test yourself with a 20 dollar vacuum tester ) or an evaporative emissions control problem, which you will have to take and have checked out at a dealership ( they pressure test the entire system and check for outside air leaks ) or possibly a problem with the MASS air flow sensor, which would shoot out a "check engine" light, in fact... just about all of those would. The only thing you need worry about is if its NOT throwing out that light, if its not then chances are its something in the basic system of the engine, the plugs, wires, fuel your running, maybe a clogged injector. As for the revving semi high before shifting? With an automatic that may be a sign of transmission slip, check your fluid and make sure its not burnt or dirty, if in doubt change it...
