I dunno if this will be your problem but has any bulb been replaced?
I say it as 1 time I accidently put the wrong bulb in a tail light. 1156 instead of a 1157.
the results were everytime I hit the brakes my brakeslights, front marker lights and alll the dash lights would come on lol.
so things are interconnected.
1 wrong bulb will affect more than just that socket.
prolly not considering he know you will fix it though.

Double check the 'main' or 'memory' fuse in the under bonnet fuse/relay box.
