My '97 Sportage has developed an annoying fault. When changing gears, the engine wont slow down for at least 5 seconds. It also idles at 1200 rpm instead of 750 / 800 rpm. What would cause this to happen? I asked a Kia mechanic about this and he said to clean the air intakes behind the throtle buterflies which I have done. I cleaned this area when I changed the plugs. (that was an easy job, only took me an hour all up). I also checked the voltage at the throtle assembley and the reading was 0.52 volts. I was told this should be between 0.5 and 0.7 volts. Is 0.52 v too low? How can I get the revs to drop quickley when I take my foot off the acelerator? The high revs are making hard work for the clutch plate and the high revs are a real pain to deal with. Help please.
