I have a 2001 KIA Sportage. Recently the check emissions light came on. Yesterday it went off. Anyone have an idea of what to do?

Going for a transmission check-up including the filter change. Vehicle ha 50,000 miles. Is there anything else I should be aware of?

i would wait till 60000 miles as there is a 60k mile service due. especially if it is still under warrinty if you do not do this 60k warrinty and do have a warrinty they will void it if you didnt do it.

and with the check engine light if it is not on there is nothing anyone can do till it is on. if it does come on again get the ecu scanned for trouble code!

Not entirely true, especially if the code set is recent. If the fault that caused the check engine light to come on suddenly goes away after a specific number of engine start cycles the check engine light will go off. But the fault code that caused the check engine to come on will REMAIN in ECM memory for later readout. And it can be retrieved with a scan tool.

The shop manual does not specify the number of start cycles or how long an inactive code will remain in the ECM memory. So it would be prudent to have it readout as soon as you can.

Autozone will do it for free. The codes are formatted PXXXX, where XXXX is s series of numbers. Get those numbers and post here.
