Hi to everyone. I just registered a few days ago and the thread looks promising.
I just recently bought a second hand 1997 sportage and i noticed that there were some problems
with the fuel consumption and auto transmission.
First is the fuel consumption. I read that sportage can consume 9km/liter gasoline on city driving. Mine consumes 4.5-5km per liter. That's almost half of the average amount specified in the manual. What seems to be the problem? Was it the fuel pump? the pressure? or the fuel injector? i hope someone could help me enlighten this dilema because prices of gasoline here in the philippines always increases monthly.
Second is the transmission. Whenever i put the lever in the drive or reverse positions, a hard drag always felt, its like a car bumped you from behind. A mechanic told me that a transmission overhull should be done replacing some springs etc. I brought the my car in an auto transmission specialist here in manila but they didnt fix the problem. Instead, they just got my money and told me to return for check ups with costs.
I hope someone will help me with these promlems.
Thank you.

Mao

btw, the name of the shop is automatic transmission master (atm) in visayas ave. in qc. be aware on how they deal with clients and the price for their job.

im a pinoy too ... btw .. that sounds like u got some auto trans problem .. do u have any check engine light on? ... on the fuel concumption part .. i think u need a tune up bad ... like spark plugs need changing, air filter, fuel filter, injectors probably startin to clogged up and heavy deposits on ur valves ... thats why i reccomend a tune up for the vehicle .. especially its a 2nd hand car .. on the transmission .. seems like ur gear synchros r messed up ... but a little bump is normal when shifting ... but not hard where it feels like u got bump at the back ..

maybe if u give us more description of what the vehicle is doing and what r the troubles and symptoms its doing ..

pare .. ingat lang dyan .. maraming mandurugas dyan sa pinas .. peperahan kalang nila kung d mo kilala ang nagtratrabaho .. lalo na kung di mo alam ang ginagawa nila..
