I took a 2000 2 L, 2wd, 5speed mt, 4door Sortage for a test drive and professional evaluation in anticipation of a possible purchase of the vehicle. We hooked up a Scanguage which, among other options, gives rpm, mph, and mpg. Conitions were ideal with a slight down hill and slight wind from the rear. The averaged readings were as follows: 2800 rpm, 60 mph, and 39mpg:3200rpm 70mph and36mpg: 3400rpm,75mph and 34mpg and finally: 3700 rpm 80mph, and 31mpg. The tires were worn and the front struts need replacing so 80mph was the upper limit. Starting and stopping would lower those observed readings but I am really impressed with the possibilities of this vehicle. The scanguage can be seen at Scanguage.com. It plugs into a recepticle under the dash of all vehicles built since 1994, the OBD port. Since it also reads codes Ill certainly buy one as soon as get a 94 or newer vehicle.

Just as a point of correction OBD-II compliant standards were required on all vehicles sold in the U.S. starting in 1996, not 1994.
