1998 Sportage-no left turn signal

Bought this Kia with a busted 5th gear shift fork. Waiting on the part. Noticed all the lights work including the hazards and right turn signal. However, the left side does not light up at all when the stem is pulled down for a left turn, including the indicator arrow on the dash. No click from the turn element either. Anyone see this before or have any ideas as to whether it is the turn signal element that is whacked or the switch behind the steering wheel?

Thanks.

Tore out the bottom dash including the airbag. Ran some wiring checks with a Fluke meter and the switch is fine. Jumped the terminals in the harness connector, after yanking the flasher and the circuits are good. Ordered a new flasher through Napa Parts. Said it had to be special ordered from Virginia-cost $50.00-ugh.

Hi Dee,

I checked all the solder joints with a magnifying glass and strong light-they were all intact.

I should have the new flasher this coming week and if it fixes this non-compliant left turn signal I will post up either way. One thing I am happy with, there has been zero butchery of any of the wiring on this Sportage. Whew. All grounds and powers are good as well. Once I get the manual trans back together I hope to be able to drive it. I was surprised that it had a boxed frame when I crawled under it for the first time. I was suspecting it had subframes ala unibody. Then there were the huge bolts attaching the bellhousing to the engine. Talk about overkill. Also replaced the rear seal and clutch, and was impressed they used 8 bolts on the flywheel. Ooofdah. Replaced the starter while I was in there. I like sleeping at night.:) Engine has 100k on it so timing belt will get replaced and front crank seal and maybe more stuff.

Update:

The new factory flasher module solved the left turn problem. Paid $60.00 USD for it.

Also I ended up replacing the 5th gear and 3-4 gear shift forks. The roll pins had lost their interference fit and had wallowed out the holes in the aluminum shift forks and had actually caused the 3-4 fork to break out the small piece of casting that surrounded the hole on the rear most side. So ended up replacing all the roll pins as I found the rest were shot as well. Dealer charged me $4.50 apiece for the new pins. Hardware store pins cost 40 cents but are not the same quality.

Here is a pic taken just prior to lowering the bell housing side of the case onto the rear section. Unless you have the factory service manual for this beast do not attempt to open it up.
