okay, it has finally given yo. time for new 5 speed trans and clutch.
can i use a 2 wd trans and install the tansfer case? or is the 4 wd and 2 wd
trans different?

depends what you are asking about.
the case is different as it needs to transfer power to the other two wheels, that's obvious, right?
however, clutch, flywheel, some internal gearbox parts might be exactly same. Would one fit into another? Well, I am not sure. I honestly doubt it.
It could work, but would require complete disassemble of both.
misunderstanding, I can unbolt the extension off the 2wd and bolt the transfer case in its place. The 5 spd tranny is the same in both rwd and 4wd models?
Many mfgs do the same tranny with either a transfer case or tail shaft extension for 4wd/2wd vehicles, ford and jeep come to mind......why have to stock a second tranny.....
All good information.
Here is something else, 95 SOHC 5 speed is different. It has lower 1st and 2nd gears, and the output shaft is different size too.
And if you get one out of a 4wd, make sure you get the transfer case too. Works real good with 32" tires. Feels like you have 235's on it.
Hopefully I'll get some Korean aftermarket ring and pinion gears and then even with 32's it should be lower than stock with stock tires in 1st and 2nd gear.
