Oil pan gasket
Hello, I'm new to the forum. I used to own a 1996 Geo Tracker, but time and wear took it's toll on it and it was to the point it was not worth putting any more into it. I now have a 2001 sportage limited edition. So far I like this vehicle really well. I was wondering if anyone has changed a oil pan gasket on one of these before? I am a John Deere technician so I don't require a complete run down on the complete job, just wondering it looks like the engine will need to be lifted up a little to gain enough clearance to get it out from under there. Is this the case or will it snake out from under there with a little patence? I was just wondering so maybe I could save some time if it will come out without lifting the engine up. Look's like those engine mounts will be hard to access and was hoping I could avoid that if it is possible. Any information anyone could add would be very helpfull. Also I hear that these engine's are prone to the deadly crankshaft keyway breaking out. I know the Geo Trackers was really bad about that, luckily I never faced that with the one I owned. I guess one day my turn will come around. I often wonder why they put such a little keyway there anyway, a little over kill would go a long way in correcting that problem. Thank in advance for any information that anyone could provide.
