Have a 2002 that 6 months ago rolled into its current position when it was dead. Not trying to tow it to give it away, I removed the drive shaft as recommended, and cannot get it out of park. The gear shift moves to neutral. It is on a slight downhill slope but does not move, the tranny appears to still be stuck in park or in gear. Emergency brake is disengaged and we have tried rocking it and even pulling it back up the hill with another truck to help release the transaxel to neutral with no success. All the gear shift interlocks seem to be working fine and the fuses are all good. Any thoughts of what to try next?

I don't know if this will help, but I'll let this idea to go:

There's an Opening on the Shifter's console, intended to slide a long screwdriver on it, to force the Neutral on the Automatics that needs to be Towed... Try that and let us Know the Results.

Kind Regards.

If you removed the driveshaft to the rear wheels, and the tow dolly is lifting the front wheels,

it means the rear brakes are rust-locked to the brake drums - you will need to jack each wheel, back off the brake shoe adjuster, use liberal amounts of PB Blaster, remove the rear wheels, and hit the brake drum on each side to loosen / dislodge the shoe from the drum..

Best to try to get some PB Blaster internal to the shoe/drum through the adjuster hole, use (2) long bolts to force the drum off the shoes, and cleanup everything as needed - else you risk destroying the shoes / pins / clips in the process ..

* Also check the E-Brake link & cables to make sure it isn't holding up the shoes due to crud or rust: make sure the primary cable/plate and attached rear e-brake cables are disengaged properly..

Any news with this?

I'll like to know how this story, ended.

Kind Regards.
