Smile G'day from NT Australia.

Hi all,

Signed up a little while ago but forgot to put up my intro.

I have a 97 Sportage for a number of years (since 07) and have been very slowly improving it along with tons of research.

managed to access a number of previously perceived lost or non existent modification options to the Sporty community through sheer bloody mindset and patience.

My 97 Sporty currently runs 4 inchs of lift comprising of 50mm extended front forks, 40mm Dobinson Springs, KYB front struts, 35mm Jeep TJ Dobinson Springs, RAV 4 OME shocks from ARB,
Other ad dons include: snorkel, K&N Air filter, power chip fitted with "98" tune, front Kaiser diff lock, 5.38 R&P's, 1&3/8 body lift, Tru Speed device (to correct speedo) sports steering wheel.

Currently working on a fix with a suspension specialist to rectify the AArm issue when we lift our beasties. I have a thread in the Sportage forum.

Next mod will be extractors from wildcat along with ceramic coating and a 21/4-2 inch free flow exhaust and hi flow cat.

My Sporty has been relegated to my son for his daily driver now he has his P license.

Look forward to providing updates to the Sporty community.

cheers, Chris

I've seen your posts in 4x4 wire... you should get some pics up here.

My sportage as it stands today:
King springs front, dobinson +35mm TJ rear, KYB rav 4 shocks 15x7's with 32's.
Guard chop and body trimmed slightly behind the front wheel and will get a custom front bar when I get a bit more time to sort it out.

Hello Chris ,
Really pleased to see you are posting on this site would you have a link for the true speedo device ,just got pinged for speeding last weekend coming back from sons national mx meeting in Bunbury.Running 325s think they are out about 8kmms out at 110 on clock( kms over). Built up along stoke motor 2.3 litre its holding together well.Have had wildcat extractors for about 6 weeks the real improvement is from disabling the egr valve and the lack of heat being held in the engine bay by the cast iron originals.
Minor updates 50mm suspension lift, 35mm body lift,2.3 litre engine ,widlcat extractors.16" electric fan .
Future mods desperately need offestt hubs ,rear wheels rubbing on rear shocks.
regards Dave

Hi Dave,

Tru speed device, the guy in Aus no longer imports them, he use to bring them in for Landrover Discovery II's

However I found they were exactly the same as the Superlift ones. You need model number model #33002 . This was sold as a jeep model.
Try this link however you may not be able to buy them any more. http://truckstylers.com/i-3743155-su...alibrator.html

The guys on AULRO have now sourced another speedo correction device for the Disco II which from all reports works. Unsure if it is compatible with our Sporty's but I can 't see why they wouldn't when the truspeed device is compatible. Here are the details.

Ratio Interface Unit C6100-4 for $125 + $15 freight from:
Hunter Di Spare Parts Company 37 Millett St Hurtsville NSW 2220
Mob: 0413 813 698 Email: hunterdispares@yahoo.com.au
Fax: 02 9594 7447

Can you supply instruction and photos for your Egr block?

Also details man on the stroker. Very excited, 4x4wire died off on the development of this. Was it worth the hassle?

Cheers Chris

Hi Chris ,
Nice sporty ; will Draft up a reply tonight on erg blank off very easy to do.It was harder to pull out pipe that runs behind motor. But with the body lift you have there should be more clearance down the back of engine.
Regards Dave

Hi Chris,
For the egr valve blanking plate; that's nice an easy .Take a 12mm ring spanner and undo the two bolts that hold it on . Gently loosen the valve off the manifold , be careful to look out for a alloy gasket very thin. This will be used for as your master for blanking off holes .You now need to make up a gasket or sheet metal blanking plate the same outline as your original shim but only have the bolt holes. One mm gasket material would easily do the job, reassemble with 3bond or hi temp silicon (black).
The tricky part is blanking off the underside of inlet manifold.Remove exhaust side nut then under side of manifold nut.Carefully remove egr pipe.
cut the pipe so you have just the manifold nut with its 14mm(roughly) hole in Centre. It's now just a case of deciding how you are going to blank off the hole. I turned up a top hat plug , which slides into nut and clamps onto itself when screwed back in.Other options silver solder a plug in or find a blanking bolt.
Hope it helps
Dave

Hi all,

Just thought I would put up a couple of photos on how the sporty sits now.

Had the front diff lock, 5.38 ring and pinions with solid spacers fitted. Also had new tyres fitted, the are Bridgestone D674 mud terrains 245/75/R 16's. Loving the flex with the suspension. The back wheels with the muddies will drop down past the sills at full droop.

From the rear tyres sit sit inside the guards I think it looks tuff as, especially with the Grand Vitara XL7 alloys.
