Thumbs up

Welcome to the Kia Forums. If you go to Kia Global Information System (KGIS) , you can view a free online manual for your car. It is totally free to register and use.

Here is a screenshot from the site , it might help you out. It is for a later year but location is most likely the same. I could not locate the position in the 1997 manual but I only took a quick look for you.

it reads off of the crankshaft pulley (that the drive belts run on) and is mounted on a bracket on the lower part of the engine closer to the front of the vehicle on the right side. the wire runs up to the top of the engine.
