Default Rough Idle - Poor Gas Millege - Surges

Alright well I have a 1.6 97 Kia Sephia manual transmission and this problem started probably about a month ago. From take offs shifting from first to second or second to third there seemed to be a moment of lost power then everything would be fine. Then on the highway doing 70 there would be interminant stuters, the RPM's wouldn't drop and no check engine light would come on. This would come and go.

Well the last few days I have noticed the idle has been really rough, at stops its been in the 500 range. Once I put the car in gear it almsot seems like it wants to die unless I am giving it alot of gas. So far it starts every time and has only died once at a stop but fired right back up.

Any ideas what may be causing this? Dirty fuel filter perhaps?

What's the milaege, service history, current state of service (when was it last serviced) ?

Could be a number of things, but I would start by installing new NGK plugs gapped to 0.028 ~ 0.030" , fuel filter, and air filter, and clean the Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve.

Post This worked for me...

I recently did "Similar Servicing" to my 2001 Kia Spectra GSX (1.8 Engine) - I found that by installing the Simple NGK Platniums Plugs + Running Concentrated Injector Cleaner (Upon my Next Fill Up ) + taking a "Little Highway Road Trip" Really Helped to break loose any Deposits that might be hanging around my Fuel Injectors.

End Result: A Lot Better Mileage + Smoother Idle....

Hope This Helps out..

GOOD HUNTING
