Hate to break the news to you - but you aren't getting that bad of milage.

If I did my figures right, 8.5 kilometers per liter equates to 20MPG here in the states city, and 13 KM/l is about 30MPG freeway milage. I'm thinking that you might be about 15% low for freeway and 30-40% low in the city.

Are you a younger driver? Do you throttle it up alot and push the car hard? That would account for the really bad city milage.

I've got a 97 sephia with a 1.8, manual tranny and I get about 32-36 MPG freeway depending on how I drive it. In the city, I only get about 24 MPG. If you're pushing the heck out of a little motor, you'll drink more gas than if you're babying a bigger motor in a similar body style of car - have had some experience with this with a couple of old Fairlanes - one with a 289 and another with a 390.

I would try some basic tune up stuff however - plugs, cap, rotor, wires, filters (air & fuel), and change the oil and oil filter if it's been more than 3000 miles (4800 KM). Make sure your tires are properly inflated too. I found that I can get tune up parts and filters a whole lot cheaper from Amazon (dot) com than I can at the local friendly parts house. Don't know where you're at, so I don't know how hard the shipping will bite you if you try Amazon.

Amazon is also a great place to find repair manuals and books if you don't want to subscribe to an online repair manual service. Another great resource is the public library system.

Good luck with your project!
