Default Hard Stop Locks Up/Kills Engine

I've had a problem come up and wasn't sure if this could be related to the ISV you guys have been talking about.

When I come to a hard stop, the engine seems to either die after what I can only describe as a lurch or if I'm able to briefly hit the gas pedal, it will sort of unlurch and then move along into a normal idle.

I checked everything I could as far as the general stuff (fluids, brakes are fine, etc). I thought the problem might have been related to the brakes but they've been checked out and everything is fine.

No issues accelerating, no issues with anything else.

Ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

It could well be a sticky Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve that's not responding fast enough to catch the rpm's and steady it out at normal idle speed.
Try cleaning it with carb cleaner, and see how it goes.

D,

I'd leave the plugs gapped at 0.028" if you're not encountering problems.

Is your car a 1.6 or 1.8 ?

Take a look at KiaTech's web site and you'll find the picture in the below link - it refers to the ISC as "Bypass Air Control" (BAC) item 7.

My car is a 1.8L.. After reading a lot last night. I tried tapping my ISC and the MAF and the car seemed to accelerate when I did that. So I removed the ISC and it seemed clean so I re-installed it. Is there a specific way to clean this part? Also could the MAF be cleaned or does it have to be replaced? Thanks for your help ron1004

The increase in engine speed when tapping the ISC and MAF may indicate that the connectors terminals are not making good contact - try disconnecting and cleaning them.

The ISC is typically cleaned by spraying carb cleaner into the ports.

The MAF is very delicate, and can also be cleaned - for that I normally use a non-residue electronics spray - just spray a stream onto the internal parts - never touching the internal parts (some remove the screen and touch the delicate parts and it's usually destroyed this way).
