Yes sadley chains can be just as prone to troubles as timing belts. Really no reason in this day and age for it but it happens. The NEW Hyundai 3.8 and 3.3V6's in both Hyundai's and KIA line have chains. In fact If and when you do have to service them. Weather due to advanced age or guide/tensioner problems. Getting all warm and fuzzy over a chain versous a belt just yet might be a little soon. Do not think you are getting off cheaper then a said to be expensive T/B job. Like many of you say is too much for your blood. As Those engs have not one but THREE chains, and thier guide/tensioner counter parts. One for left bank, one for right bank, and one for the oil pump. So more times the parts as a single belt system to mess up and go bad.
