I believe the only way to diagnose this is to attach a fuel pressure gauge and confirm the fuel rail pressure.

Just to confirm, does the engine run if you keep your foot on the gas peddle and only die when it should idle? - If this is the case, then you have a problem with the Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve, which can often be cured by cleaning with Carb Cleaner.

It could also be a problem with the EGR valve, but this normally makes for rough idle and poor performance.
