My mom just bought a 2000 kia pride cd5 almost a month ago.
When she bought it, the engine was thought to be in good condition, no evidence of leaks (I wasn't around when she bought it).

The car wasn't driven daily. Revved up the car every other day.

However problems with the engine showed up this week:

1) Engine dies when turning the aircon on/off even if neutral.
2) Having difficulty starting the car even if I stepped on the gas.
3) Oil leak around the engine.

and the most recent
4) Smoke coming out from the engine into the air cleaner.

My officemates said that #4 is caused by loose compression, engine oil leaking through the piston rings, and suggested a major overhaul. Are they right?

Is it possible that the seller tried to hide the defects?
