Yes the ipod will display 'do not disconnect', a bit worrying but it stops displaying it when you disconnect

I think you are right about the formats. All the tracks on my ipod are in mp3 format. You could of course convert your tracks from acc to mp3 format. There are several freeware convertors around, though if the tracks have DRM enabled version of ACC encoding you might have problems.
